Swimming

Today Dan finished his first term of swimming lessons. When he started he had no water skills. Now he is very confident about putting his face and head under. He can count fingers held under the water, and this morning he went under to touch the bottom of the pool with his hands. He can float assisted on front and back and does all sorts of tricks on a noodle that I don’t understand. I am still very proud.

Finding Dinosaurs

Last night I hid a couple of dinosaurs, where I was directed ‘under the rug’. So Danny could be like ‘Nigel’ and find the dinosaurs.

This activity has grown into an adventure of hiding every large & small dinosaur in reasonably difficult places all over the lounge room while Danny shuts himself outside the door. When all the dinosaurs are hidden, he puts on a head torch and starts ‘finding dinosaurs’.

Lunch out and about

We had lunch at a cafe yesterday. Immediately after sitting at the table Dan was turning the salt and pepper shakers upside down and shaking. His Dad moved them to the adjacent table. Lunch went well until mid way through Dan asked “Where’s the glitter gone?”

Yesterday after twenty minutes attempting to get Dan dressed and get to work at a time classed remotely as morning:
Dan: I NOT WANT THE OCTOPUS NAPPY.
This nappy was the only nappy in the house. Screaming. Tantrums. Pleading. Bribing.

Tears .. I NOT WANT THE OCTOPUS NAPPPPPYYYYY!!! More tears & sobs. x 3

Finally, I make my way to the bungalow, across the lawn in the rain to get a new bag of nappies.
Dan sorts through them and explains: “I not like fishy nappy. Not the seahorse nappy. Not a shell nappy. Not a other fishy nappy. Not a lobter nappy. Not a dolphin nappy. I find a octopus nappy be good.”

The Bedtime Routine

Before bed, we read 1,2,3 or more stories depending on the time and the grumpiness of all concerned. Recently this process has become more complicated. Dad and Mum now have to ‘buy’ the stories from Dan’s shop. When the shopkeeper wishes to sell books this process goes well and all customers are given imaginary chocolate money to eat while reading their purchase.

In our house, Dan invented bubble wrap rivers, box boats and fizz wizz paddles. The fire engine is pretty cute too – I’ll try to capture it next time multiple fires break out in the lounge room.

One of Danny’s favourite things is dressing up – or demanding other people dress up. Here he is what I would call a wizard (I am not always correct in these things). Big thanks to the costume maker and for Mark for introducing me to Picasa.

Dan talks like there’s no tomorrow:

“Mummy sit in the passenger seat!”
“Daddy wanna play trains?”
“I see a digger. A big digger. A yellow digger. Scoop dirt”
“Mel has a baby… in her tummy”
“Solomon (is) Ja-per’s brother”
“Wanna watch Play Cool? Maybe Justine.. ” (for non-parents: Justine is Dan’s favourite presenter on Play (S)C(H)ool, closely followed by Karen)

It’s fabulous to watch and listen to Dan’s language development, however it’s so quick that it makes me sorry we only had this phrase for a few weeks:
